Went with my dad on a photo taking drive yesterday, which for a photographer, he hasn’t done in far too long.
The good ol Taurus did very well. We were on forest service roads for a while. It has so much more ground clearance than my V70. 250k kms on it now I think. It was also nice to be on the highway in something that isn’t the Raider.
Bonus 2 door Land Cruiser Prado
Extra bonus Sunbeam

Awesome! What’s that weird, tiered building behind the Atlas and CLK? Looks like housing, but also like a lumber mill?

That’s called the Concentrator, it’s an ore processing mill that was
part of
the
Britannia Mines:

Ooh, JDM Land Cruiser Prado! I haven’t seen one of those yet. And two door too!

I occasionally
see 4 doors, but I’ve never seen a 2 door before

You’re also significantly closer to Japan. JDM imports are quite scarce here. The occasional kei utility vehicle and a few high end sports cars are about all we get. I haven’t yet seen a JDM offroader. Several Defenders though.

Makes me happy to see a Taurus of that vintage on the road and doing well. I had one in the mid 2000s and hav
e since learned that there were good ones and not so good ones. The good ones were good for getting on for 200k miles trouble free and the not so good ones struggled to get past 100k without weird failures.
If you’re wondering about mine, it was giving intermittent indications that it wanted a new fuel pump at 6 yo, 105k when it was totaled in a crash..

This was one of the not so good ones actually, between 80k and 100k kms it needed a new engine wiring harness, new engine computer, a trans rebuild, and new rear springs and shocks. But since then, it hasn’t had any weird issues. I think it’s just got a new starter, power steering pump, and front struts in the last 150k. *knocks wood*
They’re definitely thin on the ground now, the only ones I see are usually sagging like crazy in the back, well into beater status.

Exactly on what you see in the road anymore.
They were pretty comfortable on the road if you were a big guy (why does everybody hate kn
ee room in front cabins now? Americans getting fatter is not making us noticeably shorter)
. I’ll be rooting for you all that yours has had it’s “fun”
and is
ready for many trouble free miles/kilometers..
